Do What You LoveSaturday 6/13/09 - Juli Ryan I am always amazed at how, even during the worst day, painting calms me! No matter what kind of chaos is going on in my life, all I have to do is pick up my brush and start painting. My mind just zones in on the canvas in front of me and I find myself melting into the painting. In other words, I love my job! This is why I say choose a career you can love! That's what I encourage my kids to do...my daughter played the violin since she was 6 years old. She went to a performing arts high school and got to work with members from the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Her orchestra got chosen to play in a festival at Carnigie Hall. But when it came time for her to choose a career, to our great surprise, it had nothing to do with music! She loves animals and wanted to become a vet tech. At first I was shocked, but once she started working at a pet hospital, working her way up from someone who cleaned out dirty cages and floors, to a vet assistant, I could see a change in her. She worked hard, but when she came home she said it wasn't like a job, it was fun! Yes, fun! Her eyes shone with pleasure. She came home full of stories about the animals and she was so excited! She really loved her job! So I say, if you have the opportunity to chose your career, don't just consider money alone-- go for what you love. You will not regret it!
