Drawing on both my childhood experiences and my children's, I try and create the world as I wish it would be. The poem I wrote below, expresses my sadness for the pain in the world and for my desire to have a voice in that world, to somehow make it better. A voice that claims hope and love and joy as victorious.

that single salty river
burning down your cheek
the homeless man who walks
alone down the city street
the widow who cries out at night
for her only love
the man who holds a gun so tight
shooting at the dove….
and this is why I paint.
the child left all alone
crying for his mom
the man who hates the world
and on his body is a bomb
the cancer that eats away
at a dear dear friend
the little boy gunned down
too young to meet his end…
and this is why I paint.
My world I enter
with a brush
washing color over pain
there is a rush
oh happy world I seek a way
hoping to paint
a bright new day…
and this is why I paint.
